CATE is an intimate, hometown, festival for independent films. Located in Santa Monica, Hollywood's backyard, it screens narrative and documentary features and blocks of shorts. The films are well-curated. Overall, I saw a higher standard curation than I have seen at much larger festivals.
The festival's mission is to screen independent films with a unique vision and voice.
SR Film Festival just wrapped its fourth edition with a new selection of excellent films that deal with various social issues without forgoing the quality of the production or the story.
Centrally located, and offering excellent value for money, this festival is a great annual event not to be missed if you are a serious festival attendee.
We attended the 2015 Columbia Gorge International Film Festival held in Camas, and Vancouver, Washington. One of the events was held in a classroom at the Camas High School, with only 5 people attending the screening. One of those attendees was a member of the CGIFF staff. Another had come from Russia to see her film - highly disappointing for that woman!
This event is unlike anything else offered in the area! It was amazing to be able to see such wonderful and diverse films that I would otherwise not have an opportunity to see, right here in my hometown. And to know that these films were judged to be accepted in to the festival let me know that my time would not be wasted on sub par entertainment.
Red Dirt has been awarded as one of the best fests in the Top 100 out of all 9,000 worldwide, and it shows! From uniquely-inspired programming to more friendliness and network connections than you could expect, it's a fabulous time every year!!
The Petaluma Film Festival has many advantages over larger festivals. Petaluma is a great town with easy 10min. access from Hwy 101.
Attended FilmQuest 2015 as a press member and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the films and organization of the event. Everything is centrally located at a large mall theatre, so getting to screenings is easy. There is a decent selection of filmmaker discussion groups and an enthusiastic group of attendees.
Had the pleasure of visiting the 2016 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival and was impressed with everything they brought to the table. While Dubuque may not feel like a big festival destination, they deliver with the same quality as some of the big boys. Attendance is still in the growth process, but from what I've heard, every year has seen more people coming to catch films here.
Just attended the festival and I want to be fair, so I want to let people know that they did rectify the situation and I had a very pleasant meeting with the festival director. While this festival is in a stunning location for fall foliage, it is hard to get to for anyone who is not driving distance.
Having lived in Montreal for 17 years, I never understood why MWFF wasn't big like TIFF. Montreal is an awesome city with more international flair than Toronto. To be sure. I guess it takes a lot of money to bring in the films and the stars, like TIFF.
That said, I praise MWFF for screening just about anything.
