INDIE FILMMAKER BECOMES LEADING LADY

by root

As a woman looking to get her foot firmly planted in the tricky world of indie filmmaking, Lake Bell wrote, directed, starred and co-produced in the 2013 film "In A World.." which debuted successfully at the Sundance Film Festival. That success led to a surprising turn in her career. Not only was she the winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award from Sundance, but she  was also suddenly in demand as a leading actress. This piece by Kate Erbland in Indiewire outlines Bell's unexpected success while touching on the difficulties of being a woman in film.
